3/3/13
  2/28/13 Thursday
We left Sandy waving from her back door.  We drove west on I 20 toward Texas. In about an hour we were in Alabama!

 Talladega Raceway...thinking of Luke
Lots of road construction in Alabama

Kept on I 20 to Birmingham.

We did a quick off the highway and back on again.  The city, where we were anyway, seemed very quiet and square...60sish architecture.
Stayed on 20 and on into Mississippi.  Quite a bit of road work here also.  Whisked around Jackson and did a drive through of Vicksburg.  A beautiful little town.

The town sloped down into the waterfront.  Pretty steep coming back up, I tell you!
Yep that's the Mississippi again and Louisiana on the other side.
It was a Thursday but this Casino Riverboat looked very deserted.
Beautiful murals along the sea wall (river wall?)

This little road was a main drag back to the interstate.  Very picturesque with homes all along.

Crossing the Mississippi again! Still amazing!
5 PM or so when we crossed so made arrangements to stay at the Pavillion RV Park in Monroe Louisiana.  The lady on the phone was so kind.  She honeyed and sweethearted me!  Love the discounts!  $20 and the nicest bathrooms yet!
Sunset over Monroe.

3/1/13 Friday
Thanks, Mom for the Happy March text!  I wasn't sure what day it was!  Got an early start and sped across Louisiana toward Jerry's brother Jean's house in Palestine (pronounced Palesteen).
In 1992 we drove to Tyler, Texas with Kristi (not happy with our cozy old cab over camper) and Amy ( humming the theme to Dallas as we drove through it!) .  Since then Jean has remarried and moved to Palestine. We have flown out here about 3  times.  It felt a bit like coming home.  Jean is married to Donna and Donna and I love to shop!  Donna's mother has early Alzheimers and now lives with them.  She is a pleasure and has the sweetest little dog, Maggie.  I think if we ever have another pet it will be a tiny dog like Maggie.  Jean works at Lowes here in town (poulation 18,000!  why can't we have a Lowes!) and Donna at a "subs and dogs" restaurant.   We have settled in nicely and they have kindly let us spread out in one of their spare bedrooms.  What a mess...How are we going to fit in the Casita again??

3/2/13  Saturday...Texas Independance Day!
Donna and I headed to the mall and while I waited for my DVD to be processed, we went to Bealles!  Donna and the salesgirls were amazed I had never heard of it!  It's a department store like Kohls.  They were having a sale!!  I walked out with 3 tops, a fleece and 2 pairs of shorts!!!  Jerry and I drove to Tyler and picked up Dylan, Jean's son from his previous marriage.  We first met Dylan when he was 3 weeks old and he has been to California twice to visit.  He will be 21 in a couple of months!  What a sweet boy.  He is staying here while we visit.  Jean has taken Mon. and Tues. off.  We've all been just kickin' back watching TV and Jerry and I have been torturing this poor family with our pictures and stories.

They have a story of their own!  We didn't realize it but, after the shuttle crash (which Dylan heard in Tyler and Donna heard here) the NASA folks asked it they could put up a sign in their front yard. It was to  direct all the people searching for bits of the shuttle to the headquarters just across the street.  It was there for months.

3/3/13  Sunday
I have spent all morning typing and filling in the pictures from my last entries.  Yes, you should go back and see my aquarium and zoo pictures...If you dare.  I am my father's daughter.  Jerry has to keep telling me to put down the camera and quit looking up every bit of trivia I can find about every hamlet we go through!  He keeps saying "just look at it with your eyes!"  I remember Dad driving us through British Columbia and being able to tell us about every town.  I thought it was normal and he just knew all that stuff but Mom said he studied every night...I sure do miss him.  Pictures of Palestine coming up next Posting.  See ya'll later and "bless your hearts!"
