2/5/2013
While I worked on this Jerry has been searching for the electrical breaker for the kitchen side of the trailer.  He was crawling over and under and found out all kinds of stuff about our "fort" home.  After an hour or so found the breaker and fixed it!  Love that guy!  No rain this morning so here we go to find more stuff to do here while we wait for our mail and Wed night when there will be a Mardi Gras parade (there are MANY but were put on hold for the Superbowl).
The real reason we are staying is to get the fan motor fixed so we can have the defrost work!  She thought she could get the part by Wed.
We had a great relaxing day today.  We had breakfast in the trailer and then set out for the city.  We parked more carefully this time but only a block or two from before.  Probably boring ya'll with parking stuff but parking is a big deal here!  Walked by a gate in a solid wall and saw a magical garden.

Walked around the block and found the entrance to the most gorgeous garden shop we have ever seen!  fountains and wind things and lights on trees and moss and music playing and a gift shop.  Took lots of pictures and got lots of ideas...Owner from LA!
Stopped again at the French Market and had an alligator sausage po-boy and found a slice of "king cake".  King cake is a Mardi Gras tradition.  It is a flatish cake in the basic shape of a donut that is filled with anything from fruit to jam to a praline filling.  It is frosted white with purple, green and yellow sprinkles.  Inside is a little plastic baby that represents Jesus.  Because I got a slice there was no baby for me but boy was the cake good.  Almost too sweet for even me!!!

We then caught the trolley and headed up to the Garden district.

The driver said we should get off and walk the 5 blocks to catch the other trolley.  We walked all through the art district and went past Emerill's restaurant. Lots of cute shops.

Then hopped on the other Trolley.  We got off halfway though and spent some time just walking around the gorgeous homes.  Came upon a cemetery and walked through it.

The sun came out and it was all so pretty.Lots of Mardi Gras decorations!!

Spoke with a lovely lady who was coming out her gate and she said we should buy the house next to her, only $2.6 million!

Phyllis, see the Trompe L'oeil painting of a window!  She said she just couldn't figure out what to do with the big blank spot!  She was so proud!
The $2.6 million dollar house!

Found Magazine Street with all kinds of cool shops.

This was on a house balcony...  Mardi Gras decoration or always there?

Kristi, you would have loved there shops!!
Jumped back on and took it to the end of the line.

Got off at a restaurant and I had fried dill pickles and Jerry had beer and peanuts.  Those pickles were sooo good!  I even had to text Mom and the girls!  Hopped back on and rode to the end of that line and it dumped us off right downtown!  Huge buildings.

An ingenious invention.  A wooden box on top of a ladder so kids can sit belted in and with a bar in frot to watch the parades!

We found our way to Bourbon and Frenchmen Streets and heard all kinds of music.  Found a perfect "Shanty" like bar and spent a while in there listening to a wonderful young group with guitar, bass, banjo and fiddle!  We knew some songs they played and others they wrote.  All were great!

Ate dinner at another bigger place.   Our dinner was a bit burned and dry so they gave us a free bread pudding.   Heard a jazz quartet.  Clarinet, bass, saxophone and drums.  I am sure were great but old Jer and I think we are more fiddle and banjo fans.
Meandered our way back to the car in the residential area.  People are so helpful.  I probably already told you, but every time you get a map out folks are there to direct you.  Also Joy of joys, no ticket this time!!!
